Jurupa Unified School DistrictTRANSLATOR CLERK-TYPIST(Spanish)DEFINITIONUnder immediate supervision to do routine clerical work including typing at the district or school level; to provide a high volume of oral and written translating assistance in languages other than English; and to do related work as assigned. This classification is differentiated from that of Clerk-Typist in that it involves a heavy volume of oral and written translation along with routine clerical tasks. It is further differentiated in that incumbents will frequently travel among sites to assist with translations as needed. Positions in this class may have more than one area in which they work, including working with and for personnel assigned to other clerical classes. Flexibility and adaptability are required.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS·Provides oral and written translation to assist other personnel.·Types reports, letters, lists, requisitions, forms and other materials from rough draft or general instructions in English and Spanish.·Alphabetizes, files and re-files cards, records, and correspondence.·Searches files for specific information.·Makes and receives telephone calls.·Posts information to forms and records.·Checks information against basic records for correct information and notes changes.·Transmits messages and information with speed and accuracy.·Makes accurate arithmetical calculations.·Assists students, teachers, and the public as assigned.·Acts as receptionist and provides information to students, parents, and visitors on routine, procedural or directional matters.·Addresses and stuffs envelopes.·Assembles and staples reports, booklets and other materials.·Enrolls students.·Assists in compiling monthly attendance reports.·Assists in assembling book orders.·Works with screening and immunization programs.·Operates standard office machines.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS·Sells tickets and collects monies.·Checks out books, collects book fines, and answers routine questions pertaining to the use of the library.·May travel between District worksites.·Performs other related duties as may be assigned.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:English and Spanish grammar and vocabulary, Arithmetic,Personnel Services(over) TRANSLATOR CLERK-TYPISTKnowledge of (continued):Office methods, procedures, terms, and equipment.Basic computer operation.Ability to:Understand, speak, read and write in Spanish;Translate simple to complex text from English to Spanish, and Spanish to English, both orally and in written form;Transport oneself between worksites;Spell correctly and make simple arithmetical computations;Follow oral and written directions;File and alphabetize with speed and accuracy;Post and check records with speed and accuracy;Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, other employees and the public;Read and comprehend handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of office machines;Communicate effectively;Deal with hostile, emotional, ill or angry persons in an effective manner;Lift and move light to medium-weight objects such as boxes of books, office supplies, or presentation materials;Sit for sustained periods of time;Work on more than one task at a time;Concentrate on current task in spite of distractions in an active, busy environment;Efficiently and effectively operate office machines, including a computer with keyboard and monitor, for sustained periods of time;Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate calculator, typewriter, and/or computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy;Maintain regular, steady attendance.Skills:Typing: 40 words per minuteExperience:One year experience in clerical or general office work, involving typing, filing and records work.Education:Equivalent to graduation from high school, preferably including typing, and office procedure coursework.Personal Qualities:Adaptability and willingness to learn the operation of new systems;A high level of clerical aptitude;Mature attitude, judgment, flexibility, and poise.Personnel ServicesJune 30, 2000
